Fashion illustration and portraiture

I am a figurative artist, living and working in the UK. My fashion portraiture and illustration work reflects my fascination with human faces, appreciation for creative expressions of style, and an enjoyment of vibrant colour and pattern.

I work mainly in water-based media, exploiting the fluid, serendipitous effects of loose watercolour contrasted with areas of finely observed detail. In my fashion illustration work, I enjoy experimenting with different techniques and media, frequently combining watercolour effects with CAD, AI, marker pens, fine liners and collage.

My fashion illustration work has been published in a range of formats, including books, advertising, magazines, journals, online publications and conference proceedings.

In my academic role as fashion lecturer and researcher, I produce fashion portraits and illustrations for exhibition and publication in response to my practice-led research, which aims to promote greater female diversity as an antidote to stereotypical, patriarchally prescribed visions of women and girls, and celebrate the rich contribution made by creative, nonconformist women to the broader landscape of contemporary style and culture.

I began to exhibit my fashion portraiture work in 2021. Gold Stripe – my portrait of performance artist Silvia Ziranek – was produced during the lockdowns imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Alongside Cyber Elf, Gold Stripe was exhibited in the 209th Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibition (2021) at the Mall Galleries in London, where it won the Cass Art Prize.

Since then, my work has featured in a range of further exhibitions, including the 211th and 213th Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibitions (2023 and 2025), the ING Discerning Eye exhibition (2022) and the Society of Women Artists 163rd Exhibition (2024) – all at the Mall Galleries in London SW1 – and the Royal Cambrian Academy Open Exhibitions in 2022, 2023 and 2025. In 2022, Gold Stripe received a bronze award in the Portraits 2022 International Juried Painting Competition from the Camelback Gallery (Arizona), and Clown was a highly commended finalist in the 6th International Fashion Illustration and Drawing Awards (FIDA).
